Collision! Christians and Atheists! Mass panic!

The UWA Atheist and Agnostic Society is putting on an event with the UWA Christian Union: a screening of the film ‘Collision‘ featuring Christopher Hitchens and Douglas Wilson.

And after the film, Ben Rae of the Christian Union and I will conduct a thoughtful and good-hearted discussion of issues involving faith and disbelief. We won’t even hit each other with chairs (very hard). Instead, we shall sit with our respective cups of tea and exchange views. I gotta be nice? Well, no. Like Hitchens and Wilson, we disagree on things (sometimes strongly so), but we can do so with mutual positive regard.

It’s all going down on Thursday, 5 August at the UWA Tav. You can come even if you’re not a UWA person. Tickets $5.

Obligatory Facebook event.

  1. I'm so looking forward to this. I think I have a few tag-alongers too. I watched the movie for the first time the other day and will definitely need more viewings to get my head around all of the issues since it is still all quite new to me. Looking forward to the after-show as well ;O)

  2. Awww… I wanna go! what time does it start? Can we go together, Maur? I'm gonna ring my sister/babysitter

  3. 7pm and yes! I'll email you 😀

  4. For those of us unfortunate enough to be situated on the other side of the globe, is there any chance there will be audio/video recordings of this?

  5. I'm going to bring my video camera, and hope it doesn't get damaged in the Jerry Springer-style stoush that follows.

I'll ask Ben if he has one, too.

  6. It was interesting to watch both Hithens and yourself argue your views in real time. Sometimes I am suspicious of the written word, both in articles and blogs etc. because I feel that it is too easy for a party to stop when they get a curly question and go and research and basically just plagiarise someone els's beliefs. Not sure if that maks sense, it's late. I was impressed by the way you knew when not to bother arguing point and just moved on.
